At Least Now We've Got Drones


The still not finished but updated Battle Commander.

I’ve added fog of war and now there’s Drones and Scouts that can see from a distance.

I’ll show of the drones.

The first thing you’ll notice is the expanded selection grid (which blinks and one of these days I’ll learn how to create gifs for my projects).

Click and a whole section of the map is exposed.

The question marks (?) might be a hidden enemy or place or simply nothing.

It’ll recalculate whether or not to show the object each turn, which is sort of a bug, but one that’ll be worked out once I start working out gameplay styles.

Gameplay So Far

Most of the game’s skeleton is here.

The objective is to find all four Outposts which makes the enemy base vulnerable to attack (which can’t be attacked).

It’s possible to remove all the enemies from the screen either by explicitly attacking them (which doesn’t always succeed) or wait a turn to see if they move on (which doesn’t always happen).

There’s some other events but that’s the most of it.

The game so far is a little fun but once you’ve explored the whole map, there isn’t much else to do.

Next

I’d like to have a way that scouts and drones are generated every so often or can be found as rewards.

Scouts get captured when they fail their attack so it would be cool to possibly be able to free them at an outpost.

I’m not exactly sure how I want to apply pressure to the player or if I even want to, instead adding interesting things to experience.

Either way, something is missing from this game and I’m not exactly sure how I want to fill that gap. I’ll have to review my old notes to see where I wanted to go.
